NEWS: Move to ban pot clinics in unincorporated areas

LOS ANGELES—Los Angeles County wants a complete ban on medical marijuana dispensaries in unincorporated areas of the county.

The Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to ask county staff to prepare an ordinance banning pot clinics in unincorporated areas.

The Regional Planning Commission would have to approve the ordinance before the board takes it up, which would probably take about three months.

Supporters say the ban would protect unincorporated neighborhoods from pot dispensaries that were expelled from nearby cities and are looking to set up shop again.

Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky supports the ordinance but says there are no legal pot dispensaries in unincorporated communities, so existing county rules are sufficient.
